Refund policy
Thirty days, no reason needed, no form. After that, we refund a material error in what the pack says the law requires. This page sets out exactly what that means, so neither of us has to argue about it later.
Within 30 days: ask and we refund
Email hello@shortstayrules.com from the address you bought with. You do not need a reason and we will not ask for one. We answer within two business days.
You keep the files. We are not going to ask you to delete a PDF, and we could not check anyway. Asking would only make an honest refund feel like an accusation.
This window covers the ordinary reasons: it was not what you expected, you bought the pack for the wrong state, your property turned out not to need it, you changed your mind.
After 30 days: a material error
A material error means: the pack states that the law requires something, and the instrument we cite does not support it. If you find one, tell us and we will refund you, correct it, publish a change note, and reissue your copy free. There is no time limit on that.
That is the promise, and it is a real one. It is also the whole reason every requirement in the pack carries the clause it came from: so an error is findable, checkable and correctable by you as well as by us.
What is not a material error
Being specific about this is not us wriggling out of anything. It is so that the promise above means something.
- Typos, spelling, grammar, formatting or a broken link. Tell us and we will fix it in the next version. It does not change what the law requires, so it is not a refund ground.
- A government source being wrong. We can only be as accurate as the material the government publishes. Where an instrument and the regulator's own summary of it disagree, we show you both and say which is which, rather than picking one. That is the product doing its job, not failing at it.
- The law changing after your version was issued. That is what the 12 months of updates are for. We monitor the source documents weekly and reissue when they move.
- A question we flagged as unsettled. In a few places the law genuinely is not resolved, and we say so and give both readings. Someone later taking one of those readings does not make the other one an error. Showing you both is the answer.
- Your council, your strata scheme or your local environmental plan taking a different view of your particular property. The pack says plainly and repeatedly that it does not cover those, and it cannot: they are specific to your address.
- An outcome you did not want. We describe the rules. We do not promise a result, and nothing in the pack makes anyone compliant.
Your rights under Australian Consumer Law
This is a digital product sold in Australia, so the consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law apply. They cannot be excluded, and we do not try to. Among other things, what we sell must match its description, be fit for the purpose we describe, and be supplied with due care and skill.
“No refunds on digital goods” is not a lawful position in Australia. If you see it on another compliance product, that tells you something about the product.
Nothing on this page limits your ACL rights. Where this policy is more generous than the law requires, this policy applies. Where the law gives you more than this page does, the law applies.
Buy the right thing in the first place
The NSW pack covers New South Wales only. It says so on the sales page, on the first page of the pack and in the file names. If your property is in Victoria, Queensland, WA, SA, Tasmania, the ACT or the NT, please do not buy it.
Before buying, read the free jurisdiction page for your location. Everything the pack is built on is published there under CC BY 4.0, and if the free page already answers your question then you do not need the pack.
Updates
Updates are included for 12 months from purchase. If a source document changes inside that window we rebuild the pack and send you the new version at no cost. We can only send it to the address you bought with, so tell us if that changes.
After 12 months the pack you hold keeps working, it just stops receiving updates. We will tell you once when that happens, and we will not enrol you in anything.
